Title:   19th Century Notebook on Navigational Charts and Maps

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY:

19th Century Notebook on Navigational Charts and Maps

dated 1813, Ballymoreen, Ireland

The notebook is written with stunningly beautiful penmanship in 1813 by Rich Croake, more than two centuries ago, detailing on how to read navigational charts and maps. Containing drawings and charts, showing the Mercator* projection.

Condition notes:   About 64 handwritten pages. Many pages are in fragments. Pages are stained and curled, a few pages have missing pieces.  Please see images.

*"The Mercator projection is a cylindrical map projection presented by Flemish geographer and cartographer Gerardus Mercator in 1569. It became the standard map projection for navigation because it is unique in representing north as up and south as down everywhere while preserving local directions and shapes."

Housed in an archival clamshell box.
