Exploring the fascinating history of Nubia, the land which now lies beneath the waters of the Aswan High Dam.

Black and white photos and illustrations.

"Beneath the waters of the Aswan High Dam lies the land which once was Nubia. Known to the ancient Egyptians as Kush and to Herodotus as Aethiopia, Nubia is the land of the Nile cataracts, a narrow green strip between Aswan and Khartoum which was the corridor between the civilized world of Africa where men and ideas met and mingled."
